First Impressions

Things I like about Wisconsin:
  • No matter where you live, you will have a forest in your backyard.
  • Albino squirrels
  • The laid-back-sit-around-the-campfire-while-grilling-steak lifestyle
  • Lack of traffic.
  • Waking up to a bajillion birds chirrping [pretty sure there is a mockingjay out there somewhere]
  • Friendly, hard-working, people
  • The back country roads and rolling hills and green trees for miles on miles
  • No matter where you look, you will see some body of water.
  • Shootin' 22s in the backyard
  • There is a DQ in town
  • The wide open spaces
Things I dislike about Wisconsin:
  • Midwest storms including (but not limited to): "heavy rainfall, damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado."
  • There are not direct roadways between the cities.  To get from New Richmond to Hudson we have to take Highway K to Highway A which merges with Highway I which then turns into Highway E and somehow we end up on Highway U...what.
We pulled into Wisconsin late Saturday night.  We were exhausted and a little too nervous about our living situation.  We woke up Sunday morning and drove 30 minutes to church in a shocked silence.
Our ward extended all the way to the end of the cultural hall (another way of saying it was quite large). After sacrament meeting ended, several families introduced themselves and asked if we were new.  We chatted with a lot of different people and immediately felt love and support from our new ward.  One couple invited us over for lunch.  I really like how friendly everyone is here.  I am also so thankful that we were able to go to church because now I know that we are where we're supposed to be for the summer.

Kyle and I are living with this guy named Mike.  Mike likes the cooking channel, birds, playing the guitar, smoked chicken, being away from the cities, and sticking it to the man.  Mike says things like "panty-waste" and randomly buys a 70" TV because "that's the biggest the store had."  He's teaching me how to cook and I'm already learning a lot (like the 5,5,5 rule for steak).  I actually kind of like living with Mike because it makes life interesting.
Kyle started work this morning and I'm about to go job-hunting.  Although we are in a very unfamiliar place, I feel good about Wisconsin and the adventures that are ahead.

The huge storm that was headed straight for us last night and made me loose my mind

Highway A or was it Highway I or Highway K??

I love that there is so much farm-land here.
