That Riviera Life

Once upon a time, (pre-mission age change), you had to fight to find housing at BYU.  After a failed attempt at obtaining housing, the "wolfpack:" Holly, Kylie, Sydney, Megan, Sarah, and I found ourselves in a predicament of where to live.  We narrowed our choices down to The Cox (the name alone indicates the type of living conditions) or The Riviera.  The Riv has a reputation for being cheap, housing young sophomores/fresh RMs, and a party place...I can't say that that reputation is entirely false.  But anyways that is how six innocent sophomore girls came to be Riviera residents of apartment 135.

I do not think my mother has ever doubted my ability to make decisions more than when I moved into my apartment.  Underneath my stained mattress we found a plate with the remains of an unidentifiable object, the cabinets were in need of some heavy duty clorox wipes, and most of the outlets were missing covers.  To say the least, my mother spent as little time visiting me that year as possible.  I LOVED that place though.

It had been quite some time since the wolfpack had lived altogether.  We were excited and even a little nervous to start a new school year together.  I had never lived with Kylie before and Holly had never been my roommate.  When we were together though it was as if we had never spent time apart.  It was like we were all instant best friends and although I can't remember perfectly I am almost positive that we stayed up late our first night back catching up.

Shortly after moving in we met our next door neighbors who quickly became part of the wolfpack.  Their apartment was also filled with six beautiful, fun girls: Emilee, Lacey, Summer, Caitlin, Berkley, and Rachel.  On multiple occasions we contemplated making a tunnel from our apartment to theirs.  Sometimes we would run into their apartment imitating The Sexy Sax man.  Sometimes we would build forts together and watch The Walking Dead.  Basically they were our Soul Sisters.

Aside from our neighbors we were actually kind of loners.  But not really.  I mean we loved each other so much that we would just spend our Friday nights hanging out together.  When you live with your best friends you don't really get out much.

My sophomore year was filled with Chocodiles (chocolate dipped twinkies), awkward dance sessions, dates to Dairy Queen, and sleepovers in each other's twin beds.

Why would I spend an entire post reminiscing about just one year of my college life?  Because it was probably my favorite thus far.  I made some of the best friends and memories while living at the Riviera.  I know it wasn't the greatest place to live but every time I drive by I feel a little sad that we no longer are the residents of apartment 135.
